Cresswell’s blockhouse

This unfinished blockhouse is where 2nd Lieutenant Roy Cresswell and thirteen men from the Gloucestershire regiment held out for more than two days during late May 1940.

The story of what happened is masterfully told by Hugh Sebag-Motefiore in “Dunkirk Fight to the last man”.

The blockhouse can be found found just off the D916 north of Cassel. Access to the site has been improved considerably since my visit in 2012.
