La Ferte was the first of the Maginot Line Forts that I have visited.

This Fort saw heavy fighting in May 1940 resulting in its entire garrison being killed.

Today the site has been left as it was in 1940 and is preserved as a war memorial. There is a small but excellent museum with a very knowledgeable English speaking curator.

The pictures show the entrance to the Museum followed by Block 1, the remnants of the barb wire defences and finally Block 2.
